Telecom Billing Mediation

TeleMedia

In a telecommunications network environment, various Network Elements like telephone switches encode and store accounting data, known as Call Detail Records (CDRs), in different formats. The TeleMedia Platform collects this data, converts it into a normalized output format, and then distributes it to third-party applications such as billing, traffic analysis, fraud management systems etc.

TeleMedia platform architecture enables service providers to tie in multiple types of network elements into a homogenous architecture. It can handle multiple switches with wide variety of network interface options. It is scalable, open, flexible and highly manageable and is available as a simple low-cost platform to high-end high-availability clustering platform.

Network manageability of both the Mediation application and the host is essential in a telecommunication environment. TeleMedia provides SNMP interface for remote administration and maintenance of the Mediation software and the host machines. TeleMedia also provides a local management capability.

Interoperability

Interoperability tests with a variety of switches is part of the TeleMedia Quality Assurance process. The company is working with our clients to continually expand the list of supported switches.

Capable of automatic and on-demand collection of CDR files or records from different types of Network Elements as well as from other Mediation systems

  • Interfaces

    • Serial Port (X.25/BX.25)

    • 802.3 LAN interface

    • Magnetic Tape Emulation (MTE)

    • Proprietary Interface (on request)

  • Networks

    • X.25, TCP/IP and OSI

  • Protocols

    • FTAM, CMIP, MTP, AFT, AMATPS, FTP

  • Switches †

    • Ericsson, Lucent, Nokia, Siemens, Alcatel, Nortel, NEC, Fujitsu

  • Schedules

    • Polling or pushing

    • Time-driven or event-driven

    • Manually initiated by the operator

    2.  Post Processing

  • Format conversion (CDR normalization)
Useful when collecting CDRs from several different switches and transporting the same to different downstream applications supporting their own native formats †

  • Filtering
Useful in separating CDRs based on CDR type

  • Validation

  • Rejection/selection

  • Merging

  • Other custom post processing

   3. Distribution to downstream applications

  • Real time CDR file forwarding to Billing and other downstream Systems

   6. Security

  • Login requirement

  • Multiple Access types

   7. Help and Usage

  • Extensive Context Sensitive Help

  • User Guide

  8. Logging/Reports:

Generates file logging at various levels of the stack, for quick diagnosis by the user as well as the developer.

Reports for the verification of the downloading and distribution processes.

  9.  Backup

Supports interfacing to backup packages

  10. System Requirements

Can work on UNIX, NT and Linux platforms. Hardware sizing depends on CDRs per day, Number of applications and Number of interfaces .

Help is provided to customers to select the most suitable hardware for the present and the growth needs of the Service provider.

   11. Standards

TeleMedia is conformant to all the international ISO standards like ISO 8202, ISO 8073, OSI FTAM, Ericsson MTP, AFT, Bell core AMA.

  12.
Performance

Can be scaled to process from one million to 24 million CDRs per day. The system can be cascaded to enhance this performance without upper limit according to the service providerís requirement.
